What Is NDIS Support Coordination?

Support coordination is a capacity building support that can be included in your NDIS plan. It helps you put your plan into action – connecting you with providers, community groups and mainstream services, and building your own ability to manage your supports over time.

If support coordination is in your plan, it appears in the Capacity Building – Support Coordination budget. You choose who your support coordinator is, and you can change providers if it isn't working for you.

At Beyond Limits, our support coordinators take the time to understand your goals, explain your plan in plain language and help you make informed choices – whether you need a few providers or a complex mix of supports.

The Three Levels of Support Coordination

The NDIS funds three levels of support coordination. The level in your plan depends on your circumstances and is decided by the NDIA.

Level 1: Support Connection

Short-term help to connect with informal, community and funded supports and to start using your plan.

Level 2: Coordination of Supports

Ongoing help to understand and implement your plan, choose providers, set up service agreements and build your skills to manage supports.

Level 3: Specialist Support Coordination

Support Coordination for Home & Living, Day Programs and Work

Many of the participants we work with want help with a particular goal. Our coordinators can help you:

explore home and living options, including Supported Independent Living (SIL), Individualised Living Options (ILO) and Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA), and prepare the information the NDIA asks for;
find a day program or school leaver program that matches your interests;
get involved in your local community through community access and participation supports;
take steps towards work with finding and keeping a job supports; and
respond to changes in your circumstances, such as a hospital stay, a change of housing or a change in your support network.

Your choice, always. If Beyond Limits is also able to deliver a support you need, we will tell you and explain that you are free to choose any other provider. We manage conflicts of interest in line with the NDIS Code of Conduct and the NDIS Practice Standards, and we will always present you with options.

How do I get support coordination in my NDIS plan?

Support coordination is funded when the NDIA decides it is reasonable and necessary for you. If it isn't in your plan and you think you need it, talk to your planner, local area coordinator or early childhood partner, and ask about it at your next plan reassessment. We can help you think about what evidence may be useful.

What is the difference between a support coordinator and a plan manager?

A support coordinator helps you use your plan – finding providers, organising supports and building your skills. A plan manager pays your providers' invoices and tracks your budget. You can have both. Learn more about NDIS plan management.

Can I change my support coordinator?

Yes. You can choose and change your support coordinator. We can help make the handover as smooth as possible if you decide to move to Beyond Limits.

Do you provide support coordination in Victoria?

Yes. As well as Greater Sydney, we support participants across Melbourne's south-east, including Dandenong, Springvale, Frankston, Cranbourne, Berwick and Pakenham. See our Victorian service areas.

How much does support coordination cost?

Support coordination is paid from your NDIS plan's Support Coordination budget, in line with the NDIA's Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits. We will explain the rate and how many hours we expect to use before you sign a service agreement.
